Courtesy of Mum and Dad, Liz and went to see
The Lion King tonight. I'll confess I wasn't expecting a lot, but we both thoroughly enjoyed it.
We had excellent seats in the second row, right in the middle. This meant we had birds buzzing over our heads and giraffes attacking us at one point. Since we were below stage level, we missed out on seeing the floor of the stage itself, meaning we missed a bit of the action, but not much. Was more than compensated for by the rest we got to see.
The plot followed the movie much more closely than I was expecting, with some much appreciated comical deviations thrown in here and there.
Another stand-out was the use of props on the stage. Really inventive, constantly suprising me how well they integrated with the storyline.
If you can squeeze budget around the rather hefty ticket price (or get given tickets as a gift :) ), you could do worse than going along to see it at
The Capitol Theatre so you too can join the growing list of people talking about it.
Although the cynic in me suggests that's just due to the lack of theatre options in Sydney, compared with say London where people wouldn't even notice a show like this coming along. So assuming you're not about to jet off to London in the near future, go check it out.
